Drupal Asia Pacific Conference newsletter

Details for the DAPC meetup & CeBIT

Firstly, thank you to everyone who responded to my last email, even the "No"s helped. It helped gauge numbers and solidify the details.

The plan is to have a barcamp style event on Sunday, May 18th, 2008 from 9am-5pm, followed by a social dinner at a nearby pub. We will have room for presentations, discussions, and hacking at a computer room at the University of Sydney, Faculty of Pharmacy.

I have posted an event in the user groups at http://groups.drupal.org/node/11310 with more details about the event. We only have enough room for 40 people, so it is important for you to sign up on that page and sign up soon. For those of you that have already responded with a "YES", it is still important to signup on that page.

Last Chance / Final Reminder

We are trying to book a small venue and make plans for the meetup. This is the FINAL CALL for interested people. I have only received 2-3 emails so far, but I know there are plenty of neat Drupal people out there. If this is just a bad time for everyone, then I won't waste any more effort. Otherwise, please send me a YES or NO when you read this. [Stop Reading. Reply Now!]

Small Update - Please Respond

After our announcement to postpone the full conference, several people told us they had already booked flights and were hoping they could still get some Drupal love. With this in mind, we've decided that we will organise some form of informal meet-up in place of the conference. However, we don't have details on exactly where/what we'll be doing now and it shouldn't be seen as a formal event. I am envisioning a mid-size group where we can do some short talks/discussions and maybe do some hacking, hopefully for free or very cheap.

Conference Changes

We are sorry to announce that the Drupal Asia Pacific Conference and the Full Code Press website competition have been postponed to a later date.

It was our hope that we could organise the event to coincide with the Open CeBIT conference in May. However the challenges imposed by a tight deadline and the logistics of integrating with the CeBIT expo have been too much to overcome.

We are still committed to running a Drupal Asia Pacific event and a website building competition, but with greater lead-up time to plan speakers and arrange venues.

It was a difficult decision and we would like to sincerely apologise to anyone who has been inconvenienced by the cancellation.

For those that have already paid the conference fees, you will be completely refunded and should receive them shortly. You will also be granted free access to the CeBIT expo. For those that have already booked travel, we are considering having a special meetup session in the Sydney area to provide an opportunity to share the company of your fellow drupalers. We are also planning on providing a stand and a few sessions as part of the Open CeBIT expo.

If you have further questions or would like to know more details about the decision, we encourage you to contact us at: contact AT drupalapc DOT org or 0431947331
